ABOUT THE PROJECT:
I created a 32-page typographic book using Undersea by Rachel Carson as the sole content. The project explored how typography alone can communicate atmosphere, movement, and emotion without relying on imagery. Inspired by the experimental style of David Carson, I used expressive layouts, distorted type, layering, and scale to reflect the fluid and immersive nature of the text. Throughout the book, the shade of blue gradually becomes darker on each page to symbolise descending deeper into the ocean, reinforcing the narrative visually through colour and pacing.
This project strengthened my understanding of editorial design, typographic hierarchy, and how visual composition can shape the reader’s experience of written content.
